Department of Mathematics and Physics
Basic Academic Units
The purpose of the Basic Academic Units (UABs) is to coordinate, carry out, follow up on and evaluate the specific activities of teaching, research and engagement related to a particular field of knowledge within the framework of the department's general object of study. Each unit consists of a team of full-time professors, one of whom assumes the role of coordinator. The DMAF has three UABs:
Mathematics for Finance and Economics
Coordinator: Dr. Juan Diego Sánchez Torres
The purpose of this UAB is to design and coordinate the processes for acquiring competencies in basic and applied mathematics in the areas of administration, business, economics and finance, for the formation of students from engineering programs and economic-administrative areas who take the courses on offer.
Coordinator: Dr. Luis Ignacio López Benítez
The purpose of this UAB is to teach the different branches of Physics that model the behavior of matter and energy with a scientific focus, using mathematical sciences. In particular it promotes the study and research of structures at the nanometric scale.
Mathematics for Engineering
Coordinator: Dr. David González Chávez
This UAB is responsible for the acquisition of mathematical competencies for the formation of engineering students, specifically competencies related to mathematical concepts, logical and abstract reasoning for solving mathematical situations, mathematical modeling for problem solving, graphic interpretation and representation of mathematical objects, induction/deduction of rules and demonstrations of theorems, and the communication of mathematical ideas and the results of the reasoning that ensues from them.
